Meet Our Acupuncturist

Dr. Melissa Palmer is our Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA). Acupuncture is the art of inserting tiny needles into specific points to promote healing. Each acupuncture point has a specific goal. This technique has its roots in ancient China and has been proven effective in the treatment of many diseases. Dr. Palmer has been trained in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) to diagnose and treat disease with acupuncture. In TCVM, acupuncture is seen as a way to move Qi (energy). In western medicine, research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the production and release of certain neurochemicals and hormones.

During your pet’s acupuncture treatment, you and your pet will be in our “Zen Room”, comfortably seated on our couch or on the ground, as your pet prefers. Music will be playing during the treatment that is specifically designed to calm pets and provide a soothing environment. After assessing your pet and their needs, Dr. Palmer will insert the acupuncture needles and let them do their work over the next 15-20 minutes, before returning to remove them. Dr. Palmer treats dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and rats with acupuncture.
