Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept walk-in appointments?

We will certainly see walk-in appointments, but out of respect for those who have made an appointments we will see scheduled appointments first.

The exception of course is an emergency. We do our best to stay on schedule, but unforseen emergencies and complications can put us behind.

Our doctors will not rush your pet’s care and will work to provide you and your pet the excellent care that all our patients receive. If you wish to schedule an appointment, give us a call at 775-356-8323

What kind of payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, local checks with ID, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. In addition, we also accept Care Credit. For those clients that need to establish a Care Credit account, please talk to our receptionist. Care Credit is basically a credit card administered through a private company to help fund medical bills.

What if my pet needs to be hospitalized?

There may be times that hospitalization for your pet may be recommended and we will do everything we can to make your friend comfortable. Please let us know if your pet tends to consume bedding materials (towels, sheep like fleeces, blankets). We do not have staff here overnight so if your pet needs monitoring overnight or any treatments, we will discuss having him/her transferred to Animal Emergency Center for overnight care.

Can I visit my pet?

We encourage everyone to visit their pet while they are in the hospital. Obviously, you miss your family pet and they miss you as well. In most cases, visiting your pet improves their attitude and aids in their recovery. However, there may be times when a calm and quiet environment may be ideal as well. Please call and let us know when you plan to visit so we can discuss the situation with you and attempt to have your pet disconnected from any equipment that may disrupt your time together.

I have an emergency! What do I do?

Unfortunately emergencies happen to everyone and are always inconvenient. If an emergency occurs during office hours, please bring your pet to us. If time allows, please call us to let us know the nature of your emergency.

After hours emergencies are referred to the Animal Emergency Clinic. This is a well equipped and well-staffed state of the art hospital that is open when other veterinary offices are closed. They can handle any type of emergency.  Animal Emergency Center is located on Neil Rd. (formerly Del Monte) just off highway 395. You can reach the AEC by calling 851-3600. If you call our office after hours, you will also be given this number.

  • My sweet dog has been with Dr. Maker since birth 15 years ago. She treated my little one as it was her own. When my 10 lb dog was 1 yr old she got eaten by 3 large dogs and Dr. Maker said she had a slim chance of making it. She went beyond the call of duty, spent endless hours on the internet with other vets, endless hours going and checking on her during the middle of the night. Dr. Maker gave her 15 more years of life. Thank you.

  • I am not a resident of Reno but my husband and I had to bring our dog into Pyramid Vet Hospital after he got into a fight with our other dog (they fought over a bone). Everyone there was so nice. We had to wait a little while to see the dr but everyone was apologetic and coming from NYC, we were used to waiting. I recommend this place for anyone in the Reno/ Sparks area. Our dog has been back twice already and although he shakes because it is the vet, I know he is in good hands.
